En julio de 1963, el consejo de administraci\u00f3n de Flughafen M\u00fcnchen GmbH dio luz verde a la construcci\u00f3n del hangar de mantenimiento de Lufthansa para Eurojet (Boing 727). El arquitecto del hangar fue Rolf Zuleger.<\/p>\n
Despu\u00e9s de solo 1,5 a\u00f1os de construcci\u00f3n, el hangar de Lufthansa en el aeropuerto de M\u00fanich se inaugur\u00f3 el 25 de octubre de 1965.<\/p>\n
El hangar de Lufthansa, que cost\u00f3 alrededor de 10 millones de marcos (alrededor de 5,1 millones de euros), ten\u00eda 101 metros de largo y 63,5 metros de ancho. El techo de la sala de alto mantenimiento de 16 metros estaba sostenido por cables de acero que se tensaron a trav\u00e9s de cuatro pilones. Los pilones con una longitud de 39,5 metros fueron anclados a diez metros de profundidad en el suelo mediante grandes cimientos de hormig\u00f3n. Los aproximadamente 45 metros de cable tensado soportaron cada uno el peso de aproximadamente 320 toneladas de toda la estructura del techo.<\/p>\n
Despu\u00e9s del cierre del aeropuerto de Riem, originalmente se supon\u00eda que la sala de mantenimiento de Lufthansa se integrar\u00eda en el nuevo centro de exposiciones. Sin embargo, dado que tambi\u00e9n se utiliz\u00f3 asbesto en el hangar de Lufthansa, la renovaci\u00f3n probablemente no pareci\u00f3 rentable, raz\u00f3n por la cual el hangar de Lufthansa en Riem explot\u00f3 el 9 de noviembre de 1996 a las 3:06 p.m.<\/p>\n
