Terminal 2 was the last construction project at Riem Airport.<\/p>\n
In March 1988 - four years before the airport was closed - construction work began on building a new charter hall. This was built one and a half kilometers east of the existing terminal, behind the Lufthansa hangar, and after a construction period of 7 months, it can go into operation on November 15, 1988.<\/p>\n
The reason for the new building was the urgently needed relief of the old airport, not least because of the 4-year construction stop on the construction site of the new airport in Erdinger Moos.<\/p>\n
Additional place in Riem for 4 years<\/strong><\/p>\n On around 6,000 square meters, the new hall provided space for 24 check-in counters, passport and customs control points, shops, snack bars and all other facilities required for passengers and those collecting them.<\/p>\n The entire charter traffic could be handled in the terminal building designed for three million passengers. Since the new terminal also had its own driveway, car traffic in front of the existing Terminal 1 was reduced at the same time.
